How can you tell the difference?

While looking at ebay auctions, how can you tell if a doll is #3 vs. kirsten or a #16 vs. sam, etc?
Thanks--trying to build my collection and don't want 2 of the same doll, you know, and being new at this, it is hard for me to tell off of ebay.

Kirsten has significantly longer hair than #3. She also has shorter hairs in the back, so that when the hair is pulled into braids you can't see the wig cap. On #3 if you pull the hair in to braids, you can see the wig cap.

Also, a Kirsten will most likely have wavy hair, since she's spent her life in braids.
